Interaction AdvertisingThe booking and copy deadlines have now passed for the majority of our publications. This includes:
We are however still accepting advertising for the slideshows that we will be running during our major at-con events. The booking deadline for this is 11 July 2005 with copy by 18 July 2005. You can use an online booking form to book advertising space directly from these web pages.
Load-in Slide Shows
Loading a theatre with a capacity of 3,000 people takes some time. To keep our audience amused during this process, Interaction will be running a slide show similar to that used by cinemas. For commercial organisations this is a low-price opportunity to promote brand recognition in front of a large audience. The rates are low enough to make this a good opportunity for fannish groups to advertise forthcoming conventions and even room parties. The events covered by this offering are the Friday Night Play, the Masquerade and the Hugo Award Ceremony. Our slides will be presented using Microsoft PowerPoint 2002. Each slide will be displayed a minimum of twelve times in total as the "deck" of slides is repeated, with each exposure being for a minimum of five seconds (which is longer than it sounds - try looking at your computer screen and counting to five, slowly !).
Value Added Tax (V.A.T.)
Advertising is supplied as a Schedule 5 service as per the VAT Act 1994. As such the place of supply is where the customer belongs. Therefore advertising services provided to customer outside of the EU will have no VAT charged. Where our supply is to customers elsewhere within the EU then the place of supply will be the relevant EU country and the customer should account for VAT. We do not expect to exceed the relevant VAT threshold of any other EU country, therefore the V.A.T charged by us will probably be zero. Where our supply is to a customer in the UK, then UK VAT will be applied at 17.5%.
Advertiser ClassesIn recognition of its own volunteer-run status, and the many enthusiast-run businesses in the science fiction and fantasy industry, Interaction recognises three different classes of advertiser and offers rates appropriate to each class. The definitions of each class are listed below. If you are unsure which class you qualify for, please ask. Professional - This class applies to all fully commercial, for-profit organizations employing full-time staff. Semiprofessional - This class applies to businesses that are run part-time by their owners who generally have full time jobs to support their “hobby” business. It also applies to certain small press companies that may be fully professional but have very small print runs. In addition, Semiprofessional rates are available to charities, educational establishments and other organizations that promote Worldcon’s interests in literacy and science education. Fan - Fan rates are available only to genuine non-profit organizations with no salaried staff. Typically this means conventions, clubs and fanzines.
Advertising SpecificationDue to the potential for "overscan" on the video display, our video experts recommend that nothing critical be placed in the outer 15% of your ad. The area in the outer fringe should be the background of your slide. We recommend designing your graphic to be 7.5 inches high by 10 inches wide, that being the default slide size in PowerPoint. The actual screen display will be much larger, of course. You can send us either a Microsoft PowerPoint file (.PPT) or a graphic to paste into a PowerPoint slide. We recommend .PNG format, but can accept JPEG, GIF, TIFF, or certain other formats (check with us first). We do not recommend using PDF or EPS files, as these formats are primarily intended for printing, not for screen display, and would require us to process them in ways that may distort your original. Hard copy ads cannot be accepted. Powerpoint submissions should be in electronic format readable using Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 (XP) or earlier (.PPT format), formatted and sized for on-screen show. Any special effects or unusual fonts must be embedded in the presentation (we recommend embedding them as graphics), as we cannot guarantee that unusual fonts will be available on the computers driving the slide shows. Other electronic formats may not translate well to PowerPoint If you cannot meet these requirements, contact us at advertising@interaction.worldcon.org.uk and we will work with you. Note that the sooner you contact us, the easier it will be for us to find a solution. For maximum readability, keep the font size in your slide such that your minimum is the equivalent of 8 lines of 34 characters on a slide. Smaller text becomes less readable, even when shown on the large screen. The size of the characters will depend on the font being used. As an example, in Time New Roman we would recommend no less than 32 point.
The files, written on to CD-ROM can be sent to us in the mail addressed to:
Interaction Advertising or you can send them as a zipped attachment to an email (maximum size 10 Megabytes) to advertising@interaction.worldcon.org.uk
