Party Planning

Party Planning

Our evening open parties will be held in the function space of the Glasgow Hilton hotel. (We need to use function space rather than suites as UK hotels do not have multi-room suites in the US style.) We have obtained a full corkage waiver for this hotel – please note that this is the only Interaction hotel where we have such a waiver. The Hilton also benefits from the fact that all the main function rooms are just one floor up from Ground level – therefore we do not expect any problems with elevator queues.

Booking Arrangements

There are still party rooms available, including large and medium rooms on Thursday, some small rooms on Friday and Saturday and all sizes on Sunday. Requests will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Send requests and questions to our party coordinator, Mark Herrup, who can be reached at parties@interaction.worldcon.org.uk.

Like most Worldcons, we will be making a modest charge for the use of the function space to offset our costs. The rates for this have now been confirmed and are as follows.

  • £200 for a section of the Grand Ballroom. Two sections are available, each can hold up to 300 people at a time.

  • £125 for a medium sized room. Around 6 of these are available. Each holds up to 40-60 people at a time.

  • £75 for a small room. Around 6 of these are available. Each holds up to 20 people at a time.

It should be noted that the large and medium rooms are on the main party floor, which is the first floor in UK terms (one floor above ground level), whilst the 6 small rooms are on the next floor above that. The small rooms are therefore most suitable for small or special interest groups wishing to hold parties that people will actively seek out, rather than groups hoping to invite passing traffic.

The 1st floor layout is shown below: click on the image for a larger version.

To request a party space, you will need to provide us with information on the size of room you need, your preferred night(s) and any special requirements. Please note that we cannot guarantee you your first choice of night. Once we have finalised allocations, we will ask you to provide a credit card to guarantee the booking; we will charge these cards during June 2005. More details on the Hilton function rooms and the party booking process will be published here over the next few weeks.

Hilton Catering Services

The Hilton's Finger Buffet catering menu is available for party groups to review to decide if they want to order any items from the Hilton. Dessert buffets and platters may also be ordered. Both MS-Word and PDF versions of this menu have been provided below.

Useful Information and FAQ

We have assembled a Party FAQ (updated as of 24 July 2005) with useful information which will help you to plan your party at the Hilton.

Grant Kruger has also produced a very helpful web page on "How to Host a Convention Party". Please note that this is not an Interaction page, so we can't vouch for its content, and of course any specific queries should always be checked with our party coordinator, but we think there's a great deal of good ideas in it that will be of value.

Finally, we have provided a Party Resource List with lists of shops and other local providers where you can stock up with everything you need for your party.
