PRESS RELEASE #28 - Hugo Nomination Deadline is Approaching

Closing date for Hugo Nominations approaches Interaction reminds
members of Noreascon 4 they are eligible to nominate Nominations
accepted by post or online.
The organising committee of Interaction, the 63rd World Science
Fiction convention today issued a reminder to all those eligible
to nominate works that the closing date for nominations is 11 March 2005.
Members of Interaction, who joined before 31 January 2005 and members of
Noreascon 4, the 62nd World Science Fiction Convention are eligible
to participate in the nomination process.
The Hugo Awards are the most prestigious awards in science fiction
and it is important that as many eligible nominators as possible
participate in the process, said Interaction Co-Chair Colin Harris.
Information on how to nominate can be found on
Interaction's
website. Postal nominations must be received at the UK or US Hugo Administration
addresses on or before 11 March 2005. Online nominations will be
accepted until midnight GMT on the same date, and can be made
using a valid membership number and Personal Identification Number
(PIN). Hugo PINs were printed on the address labels of Interaction's
Progress Report 3. Noreascon 4 members who have not joined Interaction
were sent postal cards with their Hugo PIN information.
The Hugo Awards, were first presented in 1952, and are named
in honour of Hugo Gernsback, publisher of Amazing Stories and the
man considered to be the Father of Magazine Science Fiction.
Eligible nominators are entitled to name their favourite five
works in each category. Awards are presented each year in thirteen
categories including Novel, Dramatic Presentations, Fan Writing, and
Art, for work that appeared the previous calendar year. In addition,
each organising committee has the option to add a special once-off
category. Interaction has elected to do so and a Hugo Award for
best Web Site will be presented.
Based on the nominations received, a final ballot will be announced
towards the end of March and all members of Interaction will be
entitled to vote for their favourite. The winners will be announced at
a glittering ceremony in the Clyde Auditorium of the Scottish
Exhibition and Conference Centre on Sunday 7 August 2005.
