PRESS RELEASE #44 - Interaction Announces Media Programme Highlights

GLASGOW, Monday 18 July 2005

Interaction announces media programme – Dr Who writers to appear – New Scottish movie to debut

Fans of film and TV science fiction will not be ignored in the programme of events for Interaction, the 63rd World Science Fiction Convention. This pledge was made by Vincent Docherty, Co-Chair of the convention which takes place in the SECC, Glasgow from 4 to 8 August.

“There is a myth that Worldcon is exclusively about books and authors,” he said. “Nothing could be further from the truth. The science fiction family includes fans of all aspects of the genre including film and television, anime, art, comics and gaming, and Interaction will make them all welcome.”

Those participating in the film and television element of the programme include:

  • Dr Who writers Paul Cornell and Rob Shearman, along with Gary Russell of Big Finish (www.bigfinish.com).

  • Oscar winner Alan Lee who along with John Howe created the visual look of the Lord of The Rings movie trilogy.

  • David Mattingly, who will present the paintings he created for the movie I, Robot.

  • Chris Baker, concept artist and storyboard contributor for Steven Spielberg’s A.I. and current smash hit “War of the Worlds”.

  • Novelist and film critic Kim Newman, well known for his many appearances on TV and radio.

  • Writer and dinosaur specialist Dougal Dixon, the inspiration behind the BBC’s recent series “The Future is Wild”.

These and many other contributors will take part in an extensive series of talks and panels spanning all aspects of film and television science fiction and fantasy. Members will also have the opportunity to meet the participants close up at readings and autograph sessions.

A full schedule for the Interaction programme can be found on the convention web site at www.interaction.worldcon.org.uk/program.htm.

Interaction will additionally be presenting a comprehensive film and video programme including both three continuous streams of genre material alongside high profile presentations and previews. These will include showings of two episodes of the new Dr Who series, introduced by their writers, and the premiere of gamerZ, a new Scottish film about role playing gaming with a touch of fantasy.

Interaction is also presenting a major art exhibition featuring work by over 80 artists, with much of the work for sale by direct purchase or at a highlighted auction which will take place on Sunday 7 August.
