Interaction Art ProgrammeThe Interaction Art Programme will provide an insight into the fascinating area of science fiction and fantasy art and will compliment our major Art Show. We are also delighted to be hosting the Chesley Awards, indeed this will be the first time that the Chesleys have ever been presented outside North America. Our panels and talks will explore the content and the aesthetics of science fiction and fantasy art as well as presenting close-up looks at some leading artists and their work. Artists featured in our programme include Jim Burns, Fangorn, David A Hardy and Dominic Harman, in addition to our Special Guest Alan Lee. Selected items from the programme include:
and other items will touch on topics as varied as Book cover design, jewellery and fabric arts and whether science fiction art can also be Fine Art. Our Special Guest, Alan Lee, will feature in a number of items from Friday through to Sunday. These will start on Friday afternoon where HarperCollins are providing members with the opportunity to buy copies of Alan's upcoming book, The Lord of the Rings Sketchbook, prior to its official publication in September, and to have them signed by Alan himself. Look out for this in Hall 5 - books will be available from 3 pm with signing from 4 pm. Alan will be interviewed in a highlighted programme item on Saturday afternoon, and will also join with Fangorn to discuss the life of a film concept artist. On Sunday, Alan will present a slideshow of his work. He will also participate in other panels over the weekend - see here for his full schedule. As noted above, we will also be hosting the Chesley Awards this year. The presentation ceremony will take place in the Lomond room at 6.30 pm on Friday, with a reception to follow in the Art Show area. If you're not familiar with the Chesleys, come to the Barra room in the Moat House at 1 pm on Friday for an introduction.
