Young Adult Fun Activities (YAFA)

Not long until we arrive in Glasgow now, and we are as ready as we're going to be. We have our own space,
down the side of the Dealers hall in Hall 3, with easy access to the car park for the messier outdoor
activities. We also have a programme space which is shared with the Art Show.
The YAFA programme is finalised, and we have posted it online as many items require a little bit of
forward planning and preparation on your part, especially bringing kit along, although we will have
spare stuff for everyone. Have a look through, and plan your weekend.

Many authors, editors, artists and scholars have come on board, they understand that YAFA is new,
and they have been told to RESPECT everyone equally. We have special moderators who will stomp
on any bullying, arguing or patronising behaviour. Every item we have planned, we ourselves
would want to go to, and will be at, so it's not ‘aimed’ at an age group, rather it's aimed at having fun for all.
You can have your say, and it will be listened to. All members are welcome at YAFA. Please remember
though that YAFA is not a child minding service; we are a place where people aged between 10 and 19
can come, find refuge, and get involved with (un)conventional events.
Feel free to bring books, select relevant passages, or kit along to YAFA. The authors who are involved
are friendly and approachable. Take the opportunity to read up on something, if you want to get more
engaged in discussions, rather than just bystanding.
Registration and identification of younger people will take place at the main registration Hall, but
we will also have our OWN RIBBONS which will be given out to YAFA participants.

Shopping List
(some stuff you may need)
- A light blue shirt, beige combats, black waistcoat, boots.
- Protective gear, skate boarding helmets, pads etc
- Old old baggy dark clothes that we can destroy, a couple
of times.
- Clothes to run around in, shorts, combats, T-shirts – think water and dirt.
- Large water pistols – many of them – and nerf toys if you have ’em, foam baseball
bats and any other foam things to hit people without mortally wounding.
- Roller skates, roller blades, skate boards, or BMX.
- Inflatable things that will be used as weapons.
- A picture of your teacher or most hated bully for the voodoo session.
- Dungarees for those of you volunteering for the extreme nail gun art.
- Artwork for the Artshow
- Articles, reviews, comment and photos for the fanzine.
- A bad attitude.
Artshow and Fanzine
Julie Rigby, Art Show Area Head, has put aside some space for under 18 artwork. This will be judged
by professional artist and a prize will be given for the best entry. Please email us to let us know if
you want to place an entry, or tell us as soon as you arrive.
The fanzine is basically a homemade magazine. So think about what you would like to talk about, what
your opinion is on a subject, and bring it along.
Colours
Black. Black and Red. Pink. Red. Camo.
We mostly like black, but have plans to do something with these colours. If you like
wearing clothes of these colours, then bring ’em along. Especially to party in.
Arrival
Things get rolling from 12 o’clock on Thursday. If you want to take part in YAFA, no matter when, our programme
will be on this web site. You’ll know what you want to do and what you don’t want to, but please come
along at this stage anyhow, so we can give you your survival pack and free stuff, a Guide, get you registered, and
we can mess with your hair, well a bit at least, blonde maybe? Priority as always with free stuff will be to 10-19
year olds, but all are welcome.
Programme Update 
Well it had to happen. Big Brother (the real one with a nasty moustache) has stomped a couple of our ideas.
Unfortunately we can't make the Harris centrifuge, as after many hours or effort, metal work and numerous injuries the
Health and Safety Authority have said we need a licence for anything that will carry people, and that
isn’t never going to happen. So that’s been dropped.

Information for Parents
In accordance with the guidelines issued by the Scottish Executive, we have made available
detailed information for parents including official policies
and codes for conducts.
Remember, parents are welcome to get involved in YAFA. Just feel free to bring your sense of humour
and old clothes though!
