About the Site - SECC

The SECC

The Convention site is based on the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC). Many people will remember the SECC from Intersection, the 1995 Worldcon, but the facilities available today bear little resemblance to those in use five years ago. Many of the existing halls have been refurbished, and the main concourse is also being redeveloped. The main change however is the addition of a completely new purpose built conference centre, designed by the award winning architect Sir Norman Foster and nicknamed the "Armadillo". The Armadillo features a 3000 seat main auditorium and 16 other rooms with capacities ranging from 12 people to 600.

The SECC has its own extensive Web site at http://www.secc.co.uk/, including photo galleries, detailed site plans, capacity information etc. We have repeated a small subset of this information here on our own site to provide a flavour of what's available. Some of the images are quite large so we have included size information on the files.

The rail shuttle service from the city centre to the SECC, which was being repaired in 1995, is now fully operational with 4-6 trains an hour in each direction.
